Did You Know......

Years ago, I had a home with a hot water circulating pump. Every few years I had to replace it, and it was expensive.

Back in the 1960s, our family moved from Los Alamos down to the valley near the Rio Grande. We had a few acres, did some farming, and built our own house. We all learned a lot about home construction.

A family friend who was a plumber told my dad about a simple little trick. From the hot water heater, you run a 1/2-inch copper line — today you could use PEX (cross-linked polyethylene) — to the farthest sink or shower in the house and connect it to the hot water line.

What happens? Instant hot water anywhere in the house!

It’s something that usually needs to be done during construction, but it really works.
